Summer Blooms

Art Exhibit at Local Museum

Impressionist Painting at local Museum SAMA

CF Ray Quilt in Progress Stay Tune

More Impressionist......

And Modern Day Impressionism

Went to the local SAMA museum to checkout their impressionist painting exhibit

I was really inspired by the colors, the gloss and the amount of paint and brushstrokes on canvas
Also, comparing one painter with another and how they interpreted almost the same landscape

Decided to walk around and saw people enjoying themselves....after covid
and the flowers in bloom

And I am working on the CF ray quilt
Can hardly wait to put the batting and begin hand quilting it
and moving on to the next project
I actually cut out some pieces to a small storage bag and working with plastic for the first
time...will take photos of that project in order to continue with my
journal
Reading and reading....reading RBG one of the biographies on her plus her
little penguin dissents book, which is a series

I started on a Alexander Hamilton biography as well
watched a dvd on Mrs. Lowry and Son
I may have been the last person to watch this film
I really enjoyed it...except for the abuse poor L.S. Lowry had to endure
Lowry really loved painting...his story inspires me
It is very hot..over a 100 degrees...I look out the window and remember
the snow that was there only four months ago
Things really change rapidly

Grace ......great read and great talent

Train....Graffiti...Art....before covid..Austin however has lots of graffiti that wasn't there
before covid?  Would that be considered Art or a Public outcry?

The new season has begun and the weather is very different

some places are receiving lots of rain and some are complaining

on NPR that they had their fireplaces going last week and now

it is in the 90's.....the weather is unpredictable......

The leaders of our country wonder why businesses can't find workers to fill

their shops.....but when covid happened so, many things changed

and so, many people passed away.....maybe they filled the shops?

I'm not sure why they wonder...they think everything should be the same

covid-19-the pandemic

wasn't just something or just anything.....

it really changed people's lives

I've been working on my CF ray quilt and also on a small

bag too keep my quilting supplies in

and reading......I graduated last month with my paralegal degree

and I'm happy I don't have to study......at least for now

one can learn something new everyday....or by attending school

I now have a Bachelor's degree in Art History with a minor in History

And two Associate of Applied Science degrees: one in fashion design and the

other in paralegal studies

And one year on my Master's degree in legal studies completed

Do I know Microsoft Suites (yes)

Do I know about Legal Research (yes)

Do I know how to use Westlaw (yes)

Do I know how to read and write (yes)

Can I get my Public Notary (yes)

Can I pass a background check (yes)

Just some really "smart" questions asked during some of my

Interviews?

March 5th: Land of Was

I was driving today and noticed this old building about to be demolished and it made me sad....because although I appreciate the new I really love the old. I thougt I would take a photo in order to remember what was there before it went away. I'm glad I did because then I could see they had demolished and old beautiful house, which was a home to someone not a converted business. Lots of feral cats use to live there. There is a photo of one of them still there minus the people who lived there. It reminded me of when I was getting my stuff out of storage and went to throw a box in the dumpster...I noticed lots of photos of a family, which had been thrown away. I had wondered what had happened to them. I noticed the business about to be demolished was called at one time...the land of was. And I thought, yes, everything seems to be turning into the land of was.....out with old in with the new...in a very careless way. Then one day the supposed new will be old....When I was about to leave I noticed this foreign monopoly card left behind the rubble. It was still a monopoly card with the words....Deed, Morgtage and money. Yes, life has become a monopoly game of life....people owing back rent, back mortgages because of covid....real estate prices pretty high...some dropping their small houses for larger ones...while others have no home with a view or about to get kicked out of their current apartment or home.....the homeless with simple tents and those getting mowed down as well. So, the monopoly card really hit home.....sort of like Lucy and her awful real estate..it's all about the real estate Charlie Brown......I decided to show some photo of flowers from before covid and my sampler I'm still working on and my Ray Quilt by CF carolyn friedlander. I decided not to edit any of these photos because I just didn't...and so, some are grainy not so great lighting etc.....just real. I'm happy but you know just worried about things like a normal..............all about the green charlie brown......some things aren't for sale though...and human life shouldn't be even if its attached to the new ugly.

february 19th: snow storm

I wanted to write labels under the photos, but blogger has changed again and I can't write the labels anymore.....the quilt at the very bottom is from a quilter artist who showed their quilt at the Houston Quilt Festival before covid. Sorry I don't have the quilter's name; however, because of the snow storm in tejas I thought I would add it to the blog. Some of the other photos I took sometime ago, but the snow storm photos are from this week--I think Monday. It was an experience..especially when there isn't any power and it is below freezing. I had a roof over my head, but wonder about the homeless or the elderly who need more help than others. I love art having majored in Art History so I added this painting, which I love, but never posted. These are photos from the city where I live and the quilt photo is from where I use to live. I want to start posting things which I make, create, bake, cook etc...or read. Right now, I'm trying to finish a book written on RBG...it's interesting. Life has really changed....I'm sure for some people out there who deal with the snow all the time it is no big deal when they live in Chicago etc... or if they are in California they are probably oblivious to any of this going on....sort of like everyone else when it happens to others in another part of the country and it isn't happening to them. I guess it is human nature? Right now besides studying and trying to get everything back on track because of the storm..I have bad water coming out of the kitchen faucet and I have no idea who is going to fix that...since the apartment community where I live don't seem.....to be really great with the communication...and I'm watching QuiltConttogether and working on my Ray Quilt from Carolyn Friedlander. I need to post some photos of that work in progress. Also, the firefighters as ususal had to be out a lot because of all of this...and our local leaders I felt really stepped up to the plate and were really visible-despite the challenges, which they aren't use to. Until next time..............

April 2020:

sampler

california zinna

Basil

tree house

modern quilt from Houston quilt show

around the city

my sewing area

project

pop art and food bank

art which reminds me of the quilt above

pop art made by me when I was in 7th grade

Public Transportation still running-a positive sign

I'm continuing with my pop art and modern art theme
I'm also listening to NPR and Terry Gross and David Rhode
He has a book out called In Deep--
He is interesting and so, is she

I took several classes in college dealing with Pop Art and fell in love with it
As a 7th grader in California I knew nothing of PoP Art
I created the Lysol painting above
The other students around me wanted to know, "Why are
you painting that?"  I said, "because it smells nice and my mom uses it."
I also was thinking- I like this image and want to paint it

I turned the painting in---a couple of weeks later the
teacher handed our projects back--I laid the painting down
on the table because I was busy with the new project in art class
After a few minutes I turned it around and received an A- and wondered
why the teacher had given me an "A"
I didn't think he was going to like it and thought it was dumb
Later on as an adult I realized why I had received an "A"
I had created pop art when I didn't know anything about it
I was in keeping with Andy Warhol and didn't know who
Andy Warhol was as a 7th grader
I love Andy Warhol and found out he was a magazine reader
and so, were the other pop artists
I always felt guilty about being a magazine reader
I also like to keep my magazines, but unlike Andy Warhol (who passed away) my
magazines do not have a "room of their own"
I never felt guilty again for being a magazine reader
or following my instincts

My sampler--from Posie--I'm enjoying working on that (still)
flowers, basil-outdoors

A tree house, which sits empty, and was once used by some
little children
It makes me wonder--where those kids are now

I wonder about myself and everyone--the past, present and the future

The quilt from the Houston Quilt show (I don't remember the artist) and the work of
art from the museum--look alike

My small project I am working on and enjoying the creation
Creating something during this pandemic time

My small collection of Pop Art things---the bookmarker
from the library, which is closed....in conjunction with the
local Food Bank....before the pandemic

Now the Food Bank is being heavily utilized
I used it once and wanted to pay it forward by
volunteering, which I did twice
the last time was somewhat sad...because

There weren't a lot of volunteers and there were a lot of people
who needed help.....small children attempting to do their
part by organizing the back of the car they were in... in order to make
room for more items....

Maybe this is where the kids from the tree house have disappeared
to--instead of running and playing they are now having to become
aware of things, which I wish they didn't need to deal with
at an early age

When I left the Food Bank-after volunteering- I saw the long line of vehicles still waiting
for help---I found it disturbing and I realized again
this truly was real

Like 9/11 and the economic meltdown of 2008
the World and the United States is taking a hit again
and so, is New York

Our economy is suffering and so, are the people
but we will rise again

Be positive, create, read, listen, embrace and be safe

new life:

public art

home architecture of the past (art)

kid art gallery

lone star iron of the past (art)

quilt show (fabric art)

glass art at library

fashion designer (art)(shop now closed)

graffiti art on unused building

museum art at the mcnay

more museum art at the mcnay

paint by numbers art and cross-stitch art

art created by mother nature and God

vw automobile design from the past (art)

I've been listening to the radio a lot especially since we are suppose to be staying at home
Attempting to keep busy with this and that and I am

I took these photos awhile back not too long ago before all of this happened world wide
When I think back not too long ago while looking at these photos--I still can't believe
what is happening with people getting ill
However, if I go to get this and that or fresh air it makes me happy to see
people walking and speaking to one another

I majored in art history with a minor in history so, I love art of all types
I find art everywhere including the museum
The VW I found while driving and I love it
I wish I was like Carmen Diaz in the film Knight and Day and could re-do this car
The top needs to be replaced--same color only new
I wonder why VW hasn't re-made this car?
I wouldn't change the design

I love all these photos as well as the art gallery made by some talented kids

The designer's shop closed. She designed clothes at one time before fashion runway existed
I never went in, but was sad when I saw the shop was closed
The building is beautiful and I hope the next owner keeps it intact
She was an artist...and was successful because she tried

At times there are some individuals out there somewhere who take everything literal
and want to tinker in people's lives......they don't seem to understand
that playing god in a human life is.....not a good thing....because I said above
the designer was an artist and was successful because she tried.....hopefully
the tinkers don't attempt to play god with ones life
and wouldn't allow one to fail or succeed on their own...because it isn't
up to them...

All the above is art......

what do you think? do you create art?

keep safe and remain positive
